Our Story

GrocerKey was founded by Jeremy Neren in 2014 to apply modern digital technology and the eCommerce operations experience of several industry veterans he recruited to join him in advancing the grocery industry.

In early 2015, Woodman’s, the largest independent grocery chain in Wisconsin and northern Illinois, became our first major customer. Soon we were powering ShopWoodmans.com.

The GrocerKey team knew that bricks-and-mortar grocery store sales were flat, while online grocery sales were increasing 22% annually. And yet 25,000 grocery stores still weren’t offering eCommerce. Industry reports estimated that 10,000+ of those stores, however, intended to do so over the next three years, in the U.S. alone. Thus, we saw a major market opportunity — and a technology gap and lack of eCommerce operations expertise we knew we could address.

Today, GrocerKey has added many more customers because it goes well beyond just advanced digital technology to partner with its customers — specifically, with planning, training, and strategy to help ensure the profitability of their eCommerce grocery operations.
